Bulldozer battalions of aviation engineers, who are armed to fight as well as build, began moving onto the Continent the first day of the invasion. S/Sgt. Ernest J. Pomposelli, 23, of Connellsville, Pa., shown here riding a load of steel into the air, was a coal miner in civilian life but is now a foreman mechanic with the aviation engineers. JUN 26 1944
