8th USAAF heavies in May

This was the job given the 8th USAAF heavies during the early part of May. A total of 18 key rail centers were severely damaged and eight others considerably damaged, between 1 May 44 and D-Day. Starting the first day in May, Consolidated B-24 Liberators and Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses inflicted heavy damage on the rail marshalling yards at Metz near Nancy, France. One of the key rail links near the northwestern German border, it is shown here during the attack.
