8th AF pilots at Rhine crossing

As the early morning sun casts long shadows, 8th AF pilots prepare for the second relay on the shuttle-runs that blitzed Nazi transportation in the area ahead of the Rhine crossing Saturday, 24 March 1945. The first 78th Fighter Group pilots took off at dawn and others followed at three-hour intervals. The last relay of North American P-51 Mustangs landed at dusk.
