7th Air Force bomber crew members in home-made vessels line up for the start of the "Gas Tank Regatta", off the beach that fringes their base on the Palau Islands, Caroline Islands. The "commodore" in the borrowed navy cap is Capt. Ed Sturm of Sacramento, Calif., a pilot of the 864th Bomb Squadron, 494th Bomb Group; assisting him is F/O Charles R. Branson of Washington, D. C. Contestants are, left to right: Lt. R. H. Alshouse of Orlando, Fla.; Lt. Vern B. Eyre of Rawlings, Wyo.; Lt. Floyd H. Bedwell of Fresno, Calif.; Lt. Howell S. Copeland, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga.; Lt.
