422nd Night Fighter Squadron in Germany

During the last days of hostilities in Germany, the 422nd Night Fighter Squadron, commanded by Lt. Col. Oris B. Johnson, Natchitoches, La., was based at a former Luftwaffe night fighter airdrome and its members were able to study several types of the 43 enemy aircraft which they destroyed in aerial combat over France, Belgium and Germany. Examining a Junkers-88, one of the many German night fighters discovered when the Yanks took possession of the airfield are three Northrop P-61 Black Widow radar observers, 2nd Lt. Jesse H.
