3rd Army Engineers on Rhine

GERMANY - Third Army engineers assemble a pontoon bridge from the east or bridgehead side of the Rhine. The first tanks and vehicles were ferried across on pontoon sections which were later formed into a bridge. The operation was carried out under continuous air cover provided by Major General O. P. Weyland's XIX Tactical Air Command. U. S. pilots shot down 23 enemy aircraft in the vicinity of the bridgehead the first day and a half. 7 April 1945.
