361st P-51 Mustang Pilots Return

Graphically illustrating President Roosevelt's recent statement that the Western and Eastern fronts are now one is this photograph of a quintet of 361st P-51 Mustang Fighter Group pilots on their return from escorting U.S. Eighth Air Force Consolidated B-24 Liberators to Swinemunde, Germany. The shipyards and dock facilities assaulted by the heavy bombers were 16 miles from the Red Army lines. Around each pilot's neck hangs a tag featuring the American flag on one side and an inscription in Russian on the other side, both identifying the fighter pilots as Allies. Left to right, the pilots are: Capt. Clarence E. Sullivan of 542 Lee St., Atlanta, Ga.; 2nd Lt. Russell E. Kenover, of Windsorville, Me.; 2nd Lt. Harry M. Chapman of 63 Orange St., St. Augustine, Fla.; and 2nd Lt. Lewis P. Chadwick of RFD #1, Essex St., Bangor, Maine. (all not identified)
