Men of the 1st, 324th and 303rd Service Squadrons, 19th Service Group arrive at the 340th Bomb Group base at Pompeii, Italy to assist in removing planes to a safe field after the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius on 23 March 1944. Here, they hook ropes on the tail and nose of a North American B-25 as they prepare to level it before towing it away.
