1st Lt. Earl E. Woodward, Navigator of New Silver Flying Fortress
1st Lt. Earl E. Woodward, navigator of new silver Flying Fortress, is shown holding a 20mm unexploded German shell that tore a hole in his wing while on an operational flight over Germany recently. These Flying Fortresses of the "silver fleet" which are minus the camouflage paint truly become the "Queen of the Skies" and in addition are capable of 10 to 15 miles of increased speed per hour. Lt. Woodward who is from Farmington, Mo., knows the considerable consequences had this shell gone off.
